Hunting For New Voices | OneRepublic Fans Showcase Their Talent At Live Music Cover Competition

Hunting For New Voices was the live music cover competition in conjunction with OneRepublic Live in Malaysia 2018 was put together by organizer WGW Entertainment last Saturday, 7th April 2018. The event was held at the Concourse of Berjaya Times Square would seen fans of OneRepublic who were also aspiring singers showcasing what they've got to woo the crowd and most importantly the judges.

Before the competition begun, the emcee has given introduction on the concert and Hunting For New Voices competition, followed by speeched by the Managing Director of WGW Entertainment, Mr. Hendrick Huang. Mr. Hendrick Huang also stated during the press conference that the winners might be seen as opening acts for WGW Entertainment’s upcoming concerts later this year.

The contestants, either solo acts or bands, were there after making through an entry form submitted online. All contestants were first need to compete in the preliminary round, and only 10 of them have made it to the finals. The competition was then proceed with the final round in the evening where the Top 10 finalists took the stage for the second time.

Among the songs preferred by the finalists as these best showed off their vocal range were “Apologize”, “Stop and Stare” and the much more recent “Let’s Hurt Tonight”. Some of the finalists also played their own instruments such as guitar and keyboard, showcasing their talents to the fullest and made a mind blowing impression of notable hits by OneRepublic as they were assessed by 4 judging criteria; Voice Power, Rhythm and Tempo, Vocal Expression and Stage Presence.

After careful deliberation, judges Mr. Hendrick Huang, Managing Director of WGW Entertainment, Mr. Kenny Ong, Managing Director of Universal Music Singapore and Malaysia, and Ms. Yi Jun (who’s had experience participating in the World Championship of Performing Arts held at Long Beach, California) have picked Pitt Sarmon, Affan and Ullyseus as the top 3 winners.

Pitt Sarmon, who has made people “Stop and Stare” with his mesmerising cover, walked away with the grand prize comprised of RM3000 cash and a pair of Rock Zone tickets worth RM578 each. Affan, who has belted out for his rendition of “Apologize”, won the second prize RM2000 cash and Ullyseus, who has played the keyboard in accompaniment of his “Apologize” cover won the third prize RM1000 cash. Both of them also received a pair of Rock Zone tickets each. The remaining 7 finalists didn't walk away empty-handed as they were also been awarded with 2 pairs of CAT3 tickets each worth RM298. The prizes were presented by Mr. Hendrick Huang during the prize given away ceremony soon after the competition has ended.

OneRepublic Live In Kuala Lumpur 2018 | "Oh My My"! Quintet Set To Rock Fans With Their String of Hits

American pop rock outfit OneRepublic will be returning to Malaysia as part of the Asian leg of their World Tour in support of their fourth and latest top-charting album, “Oh My My”!

Organised by WGW Entertainment and supported by Malaysia Major Events (MME), a division of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), a bureau under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, OneRepublic Live in Kuala Lumpur 2018 is set to illuminate Stadium Merdeka at 8pm on 25th April. Their headlining show will feature new offerings from the latest album, which was number three in the US charts upon release, as well as notable hits from their discography. Their latest singles, "No Vacancy” and "Rich Love" as well as singles from the latest album, "Wherever I Go", "Kids", and "Let's Hurt Tonight" boosted the band’s monthly listenership on digital streaming platforms from 13 million to 21 million.

OneRepublic is made up of frontman Ryan Tedder, guitarist Zach Filkins, guitarist Drew Brown, drummer Eddie Fisher and bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle. This will be the quintet’s first show in Malaysia after nearly half a decade; they last played here in 2013.

The band, formed in 2002, rose to fame on the social media platform MySpace before signing to a label and releasing a string of hits like “Apologize”, “Stop and Stare”, “Counting Stars”, “Secrets” and “If I Lose Myself”, in becoming one of the most successful and popular bands of the decade.

Throughout their music journey, they have won a number of music awards and landed many nominations, including Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.
