Hunting For New Voices | OneRepublic Fans Showcase Their Talent At Live Music Cover Competition

Hunting For New Voices was the live music cover competition in conjunction with OneRepublic Live in Malaysia 2018 was put together by organizer WGW Entertainment last Saturday, 7th April 2018. The event was held at the Concourse of Berjaya Times Square would seen fans of OneRepublic who were also aspiring singers showcasing what they've got to woo the crowd and most importantly the judges.

Before the competition begun, the emcee has given introduction on the concert and Hunting For New Voices competition, followed by speeched by the Managing Director of WGW Entertainment, Mr. Hendrick Huang. Mr. Hendrick Huang also stated during the press conference that the winners might be seen as opening acts for WGW Entertainment’s upcoming concerts later this year.

The contestants, either solo acts or bands, were there after making through an entry form submitted online. All contestants were first need to compete in the preliminary round, and only 10 of them have made it to the finals. The competition was then proceed with the final round in the evening where the Top 10 finalists took the stage for the second time.

Among the songs preferred by the finalists as these best showed off their vocal range were “Apologize”, “Stop and Stare” and the much more recent “Let’s Hurt Tonight”. Some of the finalists also played their own instruments such as guitar and keyboard, showcasing their talents to the fullest and made a mind blowing impression of notable hits by OneRepublic as they were assessed by 4 judging criteria; Voice Power, Rhythm and Tempo, Vocal Expression and Stage Presence.

After careful deliberation, judges Mr. Hendrick Huang, Managing Director of WGW Entertainment, Mr. Kenny Ong, Managing Director of Universal Music Singapore and Malaysia, and Ms. Yi Jun (who’s had experience participating in the World Championship of Performing Arts held at Long Beach, California) have picked Pitt Sarmon, Affan and Ullyseus as the top 3 winners.

Pitt Sarmon, who has made people “Stop and Stare” with his mesmerising cover, walked away with the grand prize comprised of RM3000 cash and a pair of Rock Zone tickets worth RM578 each. Affan, who has belted out for his rendition of “Apologize”, won the second prize RM2000 cash and Ullyseus, who has played the keyboard in accompaniment of his “Apologize” cover won the third prize RM1000 cash. Both of them also received a pair of Rock Zone tickets each. The remaining 7 finalists didn't walk away empty-handed as they were also been awarded with 2 pairs of CAT3 tickets each worth RM298. The prizes were presented by Mr. Hendrick Huang during the prize given away ceremony soon after the competition has ended.

OneRepublic Live In Kuala Lumpur 2018 | "Oh My My"! Quintet Set To Rock Fans With Their String of Hits

American pop rock outfit OneRepublic will be returning to Malaysia as part of the Asian leg of their World Tour in support of their fourth and latest top-charting album, “Oh My My”!

Organised by WGW Entertainment and supported by Malaysia Major Events (MME), a division of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), a bureau under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, OneRepublic Live in Kuala Lumpur 2018 is set to illuminate Stadium Merdeka at 8pm on 25th April. Their headlining show will feature new offerings from the latest album, which was number three in the US charts upon release, as well as notable hits from their discography. Their latest singles, "No Vacancy” and "Rich Love" as well as singles from the latest album, "Wherever I Go", "Kids", and "Let's Hurt Tonight" boosted the band’s monthly listenership on digital streaming platforms from 13 million to 21 million.

OneRepublic is made up of frontman Ryan Tedder, guitarist Zach Filkins, guitarist Drew Brown, drummer Eddie Fisher and bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle. This will be the quintet’s first show in Malaysia after nearly half a decade; they last played here in 2013.

The band, formed in 2002, rose to fame on the social media platform MySpace before signing to a label and releasing a string of hits like “Apologize”, “Stop and Stare”, “Counting Stars”, “Secrets” and “If I Lose Myself”, in becoming one of the most successful and popular bands of the decade.

Throughout their music journey, they have won a number of music awards and landed many nominations, including Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.

The search for first ever Manhunt Malaysia 2017 | A partnership by Beam Artistes and Universal Music Malaysia

BEAM Artistes, a premium artiste management company in Singapore, and Universal Music Malaysia, the local arm of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, have formed a first-of-its-kind partnership to bring about Manhunt Malaysia 2017 as part of BEAM’s focus to offer opportunities primarily in the entertainment and media industries for men. BEAM has made substantial investments in, and has developed a valuable identity for, the unique symbols and elements of Manhunt, that have achieved national and even regional acknowledgement and approval. These elements include but are not limited to recognizing and honouring the traits of honesty, good character, talent, fitness, sportsmanship, grooming, intellect, leadership and good judgement; and to serve as role models for other men with similar goals and personal characteristics. The competition is designed to combine a respect for traditional and historic foundations of the Program with recognition of prevailing modern tastes and values. Hence, to foster similar values and goals here in Malaysia, Universal Music Malaysia and BEAM are collaborating for the first time to organize Manhunt Malaysia 2017!

The winner of the Competition shall be entitled to that title until his successor is named, unless earlier terminated by BEAM, and will be representing Malaysia in Manhunt International 2017, which will take place in Thailand in November 2017.

The audition process took place on 26th August 2017, where a total of 18 outstanding candidates were shortlisted as finalists vying for the title. Those 18 men are now in the running to become Beam and Universal’s first ever Manhunt Malaysia 2017 champion, and will undergo a 9-week programme until the winner is crowned. The programme includes workshops that encapsulate – fitness (EMS workout session by Vision Boy/spinning class by Aloha Cycle Club/Cross fit training by District 13), vocal lessons by Bentley Music Academy, skincare grooming workshop by SRM Skincare and modeling, self-grooming and speech training by Jimmy Wong of Wong Creatives.

The pre-judging session will be on 06th October 2017 where there will be a fashion show featuring the finalists in sportswear and swimwear. The Top 10 finalists will also be selected during this process and will be revealed during the Grand Finale, which takes place on 18th October 2017 at the Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur.

At the Grand Finale, the finalists will be put through intense competitions in 4 main rounds – the casual wear round; the swimwear dance; the formal wear round; as well as the question and answer round.

Throughout the Competition, the esteemed panel of judges will include Universal Music Malaysia representatives, Beam management as well as the one and only Ning Baizura.
